Please remember some of the most important things about renting Helium tanks. Here are just a few:
1) Always secure tanks from falling in an upright position.
Although Helium is an inert, non-flammable gas, the tanks are under pressure. Rupturing a tank may cause it to explode or take off like a rocket. If a tank is laying down in your vehicle when it becomes ruptured, it may fly through your car causing a serious accident. If the tank is secured upright when ruptured, most likely the force will send it straight down.
2) Never inhale Helium.
Taking Helium into your lungs may make your voice sound funny; but, all the other things that can happen are pretty sad. First of all, Helium that is intended for balloons is not purified like hospital gases are; so, you have no idea what else you may be putting in to your body. Also, balloons have powder to keep them from sticking together. You don’t want that in your lungs.
Inhaling Helium may be fatal. When you take Helium in your lungs, it forces your air out, so, you may pass out and have a nasty fall. If you take enough Helium, you can collapse one or both of your lungs, which may be fatal. If you take a draught from a Helium tank, the pressure may be high enough to punch a hole through your throat or lung.
Used correctly, Helium is safe. Its one of the many gases in the air we breath. So…..
